HISTORY OF FÉILE PORTLAND
The first Féile Portland event was held in Portland, Oregon the 8th & 9th of November 2014, and was a small weekend event organized by local Irish language teachers Bob Burke (RIP), Jacinta Keyes-Hanlon, and Brian Ó hAirt. The event sought to accommodate the diverse grouping of students learning Irish in the Pacific Northwest region. Our first three events were housed at the Renaissance School of Arts & Sciences in SW Portland, and after the pandemic reset at Portland Community College. The event has grown to not only offer tuition in Irish Gaelic but to also a diverse offering of cultural practices including dance, poetry, singing, and more. Through sponsorship by ICSPNW, Féile Portland has become an annual event organized by the Gaeilge Northwest community.
